Upon choosing to participate in treatment at The Anxiety Wellness Center of Chicagoland (AWCC), a 60-minute intake session will be scheduled. Please note that it is not unusual for the assessment to take longer than one session, due to the importance of the clinician to conduct a full assessment. Once the assessment is completed, specific treatment goals will be developed to tailor the remainder of the process to target the specific areas of interference.
As CBT is action-oriented, there will often be practices assigned between sessions. This not only ensures that the skills will be learned in a timely manner, but it also displays motivation and commitment of the individual. These practices also afford the opportunity for an individual to assess how well they do at using these skills outside the comfort of the session. Often, these between-session practices are directly related to the length of treatment required to meet the goals.
Most often, the sessions at AWCC will be conducted in the office; however, based on the needs of the treatment, sessions may also be completed in the home, in the community, or other designated settings. As clinically relevant and necessary, video conferencing sessions are also offered. It is also common practice for your AWCC clinician to contact other members of your treatment team (i.e., psychiatrist, other therapist, PCP, teacher, etc.) as indicated, to ensure communication and treatment coordination.
Dr. Bauer understands the importance of finding the services that best meet the needs of the individual. If desired, Dr. Bauer welcomes a free 10 to 15-minute phone consultation prior to the schedule of an appointment to help determine if the treatment provided at AWCC is a good fit.
