Individual and Family Therapy
Individual sessions are conducted with adults, adolescents and children. During these sessions, the patient and therapist work together to develop treatment goals and begin practicing the necessary skills and strategies to meet those goals. Family sessions will be conducted, typically with child or adolescent patients, as necessary. Family sessions may also be appropriate for adult patients in order to help the spouse, significant other, adult child, etc. better understand and support the patient’s treatment between sessions.
Out-of-Office/In-Home Sessions
Most often, therapy sessions are conducted in the office. However, sessions may also be conducted in the home, or elsewhere in the community, as indicated by the treatment. These sessions are often to conduct in vivo (live) exposures to situations that cannot be simulated within the office setting (i.e., driving, heights, etc.). Therapist will discuss the relevance and necessity of these sessions with the patient as appropriate.
Video Conferencing Sessions
Video conferencing sessions are offered as necessary and appropriate for various reasons. These sessions may be used to help continuity of treatment when a student moves away to college, when a patient moves and has not yet connected with a therapist in the area, etc. They may also be used when an individual cannot travel to the clinic or when a home visit is indicated, but cannot be conducted due to logistics.
Although video conferencing sessions are offered, it is important to note that not all insurance companies reimburse for these sessions. Please contact your insurance company directly if you have questions regarding video conferencing reimbursement.
Walking/Running Therapy Sessions
Sessions conducted outside while walking or running are offered to promote the importance of exercise and movement. These sessions also allow the opportunity for patients who feel less comfortable in a traditional therapy setting to feel more at ease and get the most out of their sessions. These sessions can also serve as exposure sessions depending on the nature of the patient’s symptoms.
Collaboration regarding treatment coordination
Therapists will communicate with other members of the patient’s treatment team. This may include psychiatrists, school personnel, therapists, general practitioners, dietitians or nutritionists, family members, etc. This collaboration ensures that all members of the treatment team are working together to help the patient progress on their goals.
